Breast Cancer is One of the Most Commonly Diagnosed Cancers in Women
Breast cancer has been becoming more and more prevalent in women at all ages. In the United States, breast cancer remains the most commonly diagnosed cancer in women (after skin cancers). The lifetime risk for a woman in the U.S. developing breast cancer is about 1 in 8. In 2025, roughly 316,950 new cases of invasive breast cancer and 59,080 new cases of non-invasive (DCIS) are projected to be diagnosed in U.S. women each year. Worldwide, breast cancer remains the most common cancer among women, with about 2.3 million new cases diagnosed globally in 2022.
Receiving a breast cancer diagnosis can be one of the hardest and scariest things that you will hear in your life. And the abundance of appointments, all of the new information, and the waiting can make it even harder. Get support now so that you are not doing this alone.
At Anew Counseling Services, I use evidence-based techniques to help you through your struggles that are stemming from your breast cancer diagnosis.
Why Did I Get Breast Cancer?
Unfortunately, the exact cause of breast cancer is unknown. But there are some risk factors that could increase your chances of getting breast cancer including: a family history, a personal history, starting your period before 12, and beginning menopause at an older age to only say a few.
Therapy Can Give Breast Cancer Patients The Support They Need
To start, I am a breast cancer survivor, so I have experienced everything I wrote about earlier. I know how hard this breast cancer journey can be. I know how much I benefited from therapy myself. And now I am ready for you to benefit from therapy and get the support you need for this life changing breast cancer journey.
What You Can Expect in Sessions
First we will go through your entire history. Next we will discuss how your breast cancer diagnosis is affecting you and create an individualized treatment plan.
I provide a safe, non-judgmental space where you can express fears and confusion.
As we go on, therapy offers concrete tools: grounding and relaxation practices, cognitive restructuring to challenge catastrophic thinking, self-compassion work, and planning for practical challenges (medical appointments, fatigue, support needs).
Why This Approach Works
A cancer diagnosis can feel like losing control over your body, your future, your sense of safety. Therapy helps you regain some control: over how you respond, how you process, how you envision your future.
Research shows that mental-health support during and after cancer treatment improves quality of life, reduces depression and anxiety, helps with treatment adherence, and strengthens resilience. Therapy can help you re-connect with your values, self-worth, and sense of meaning, even when life feels uncertain.
Compassionate & Collaborative Counseling
Mindfulness Based Techniques
Mindfulness techniques teach individuals to gently shift their attention toward the present moment.
Through practices such as deep breathing, grounding exercises, and guided awareness, mindfulness activates the body’s natural calming response. For many people, mindfulness becomes a practical, everyday tool.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
CBT helps identify unhelpful thoughts and beliefs and replace them with more balanced, realistic ways of thinking. You also learn behavior strategies that reinforce healthier patterns.
CBT strengthens your ability to understand and change the relationship between your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors.
Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT)
ACT teaches you to notice and accept intrusive thoughts and feelings without fighting them. Instead of trying to eliminate discomfort, you learn to make room for it and choose actions aligned with your values.
ACT helps you build a life guided by personal values rather than fear or avoidance.
We will work together, combining all of these techniques to help you get through this!
