OCD Therapy in Oradell, NJ
Do You Struggle with Intrusive Thoughts or Compulsive Behaviors?
- Are you at a standstill, not being able to function if you do not do specific rituals?
- Do you have impulsive thoughts that frighten you like worrying you may harm someone?
- Are you constantly googling or asking others for advice to gain reassurance for thoughts of hurting someone or something bad that could happen?
- Perhaps you find yourself checking the door to make sure you locked it over and over again?
- Or maybe you’re looking into Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) therapy because you’ve finally gotten tired of symptoms interfering with your ability to function, and you’re ready for change?
OCD Can Impact Your Life in Complex Ways
Perhaps you find yourself having to do certain rituals like touching a door knob four times in order to feel “right.” You may always been scared that you are going to harm someone because of the thoughts that pop into your head. You may try to hide how you feel to others but in reality it is a constant battle for you.
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder is a mental health condition that causes unwanted thoughts (obsessions) and urges to perform rituals or routines (compulsions) and it can come in many different forms. OCD can have you spend hours focusing on the thoughts in your mind that scare you like harming a loved one or performing rituals like googling to find reassurance or checking if you turned the stove off five times.
Thankfully, you do not have to continue living with the burden of OCD. With the help of OCD therapy, you can learn to be less fearful of the thoughts in your mind, remove doing rituals, and live the life you want.

OCD is a Common, Yet Often Overlooked Issue
In The United States, approximately 1.2% of adults have OCD in any given year. And about 2.3% of adults will meet diagnostic criteria for OCD at some point in their lives. Signs of OCD will usually show during childhood, but sadly, they’re often mislabeled or ignored, which can make it really hard to function and deal with as an adult. OCD can be caused by a mix of genetics, brain differences, stressful life events, childhood trauma, and learned patterns.
Are You Tired of Feeling Frustrated That No One Understands Your OCD Symptoms?
If you are considering OCD therapy, you probably feel frustrated, overwhelmed, and quite frankly, exhausted. You likely have friends and family who don’t understand why you cannot just stop having intrusive thoughts or performing certain compulsions, which leaves you feeling even more isolated.
And although you know inside these thoughts and behaviors make no sense, you still can’t help to feel like they are all real and will come true.
I am here to tell you that you are not alone. It is common for you to feel this way. But the good news is that you are in the right place to begin tackling OCD with the help of a trained therapist.

What You Can Expect in Sessions
During our first session we will go over your entire history. From there we will meet weekly and explore many different areas including:

- Identifying your specific obsessions and compulsions
- Practice structured exposure exercises, customized to your comfort level
- Build tolerance for uncertainty and discomfort
- Reduce fear and improve confidence in managing your OCD symptoms
Compassionate, Collaborative, & Structured OCD Therapy
All of these modalities are known to help people who suffer from OCD. In therapy, I blend all of three of these together throughout your journey to help you overcome your symptoms of OCD and regain control of your life!
Exposure & Response Prevention (ERP)
ERP works by helping you gradually face the thoughts, images, or situations that trigger your anxiety while resisting the urge to do compulsions. Over time, your brain learns that the feared outcome doesn’t happen and the anxiety naturally drops.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
CBT helps identify unhelpful thoughts and beliefs and replace them with more balanced, realistic ways of thinking. You also learn behavior strategies that reinforce healthier patterns.
Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT)
ACT reduces the struggle with intrusive thoughts by helping you see them as mental events opposed to threats. This lowers the urge to perform compulsions and increases flexibility in how you respond.

Common Questions About OCD Therapy
What if talking about my intrusive thoughts makes them worse?
This is a very common worry and understandably so. Intrusive thoughts can be very scary and make us extremely anxious. But, talking openly about your intrusive thoughts, without judgment or fear, is one of the most healing parts of OCD therapy. We will go at your pace to make sure you always feel comfortable. As you learn how OCD works, you’ll start to see your thoughts differently and feel less threatened by them.
I’ve tried managing my symptoms on my own. What if therapy doesn’t help?
Many people spend years trying to “figure out” OCD before seeking help. Many spend years thinking it is anything but OCD. But OCD isn’t a problem that can be solved through logic or willpower alone. It’s a brain-based cycle that requires specific tools. ERP is highly effective, and most clients experience significant improvement when they actively engage in the process.
Is it scary to do exposures to what I fear?
Exposures, part of ERP therapy can sound scary. It is basically making you face your fears… But when used in therapy with support, it is not scary. It is actually a collaborate and compassionate process. When we begin, we start with something that may only cause a little bit of fear or anxiety and then work our way up. And we will discuss all exposures and explore your comfort level together. Most clients find that ERP feels empowering and has helped them tremendously.
My Commitment to Your Healing Journey
I’m deeply committed to helping you build a healthier, freer relationship with your thoughts using evidence-based approaches like Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP). But just as important, I’m committed to helping you feel supported, respected, and safe throughout the process.
