Often times my clients who struggle with depression or anxiety will tell me that in the moments they are very down or very anxious, it is hard for them to pull themselves out of it. They will say that in those moments they cannot think clearly enough about all we have discussed to remember how to challenge their thoughts or to think more positively. I will suggest to them to find a quote that they can relate to or if they want to be really creative, to write a quote of their own. I also ask them to find a quote that helps to summarize what we have discussed in session. Then, my client will put this quote somewhere that is always accessible to them such as in their phone, written in their planner, or anywhere else that works for them. Quotes make people think about their life and question how they are reacting to life and living their life. Below I would like to share with you a quote that I wrote myself and some of my favorite quotes that have helped me in life and to encourage you to find some for yourself.
Tara Amanna: “Time is probably the most powerful part of life. Rushing to be on time. Bad timing. Perfect timing. Wasting time. Time flying by and wishing you could go back in time. Most importantly realizing that time is precious and not spending it wisely with a smile is a very unfortunate thing to do because each second that passes will never be yours again.”
Dalai Lama: “He said, ‘There are only two days in the year that nothing can be done. One is called yesterday and the other is called tomorrow, so today is the right day to love, believe, do and mostly live.”
Vivian Greene: Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass. It’s about learning to dance in the rain.”
