Therapy for Students Struggling in High School
Helping Teens Find Confidence and Balance
High school can be an exciting time but for many students, it can also feel overwhelming. Academic pressure, social challenges, preparing for college, careers, and adulthood can quickly lead to stress, anxiety, or a loss of motivation. When grades start to slip or a student seems withdrawn and discouraged, it’s often a sign that something deeper is going on.
I help high school students who are struggling academically learn how to manage stress, rebuild confidence, and develop healthier ways to cope so they can feel more capable both in and out of the classroom.
Why Students Struggle in High School
There are many reasons a teen might have trouble focusing, staying motivated, or keeping up with schoolwork. Sometimes it’s due to anxiety or perfectionism. Other times, it could be depression or issues with adjusting.
Whatever the cause, these struggles can affect more than grades. Students may begin to feel hopeless, disconnected, or overwhelmed by expectations. Therapy offers a safe place to sort through those feelings and find ways to move forward.
How Therapy Helps
In our work together, I help students:
Understand what’s really behind their stress or low motivation
Learn practical coping tools for managing anxiety, procrastination, and self-doubt
Develop organization and time-management strategies that actually work for them
Rebuild a sense of confidence and pride in their abilities
Strengthen communication skills and emotional awareness
Therapy gives teens a space to talk openly, without judgment about what they’re going through. I help them discover what’s getting in their way and how to approach school and life with greater balance and self-trust.
My Approach
My approach is collaborative, compassionate, and strengths-based. I use techniques from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), mindfulness, and solution-focused counseling to help students understand their thoughts and behaviors, set realistic goals, and experience success step by step.
I also know how important it is to involve parents when appropriate. I work closely with families to ensure that everyone is supported and that progress made in therapy carries over into home and school life.
Helping Teens Regain Hope and Direction
When students start to believe in themselves again or in some instances to ease up on themselves, everything changes. They begin to take small, steady steps toward progress and those steps add up.
If your teen is feeling stuck, anxious, or defeated about school, I’d love to help. Together, we can uncover what’s holding them back and build the tools they need to move forward with confidence and calm.
