What Is OCD?
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder is a mental health condition that causes unwanted thoughts (obsessions) and urges to perform rituals or routines (compulsions). These patterns can significantly impact your work, relationships, and daily life.
Common examples of OCD symptoms include:
-
Repeated checking or cleaning rituals
-
Fear of contamination or harming others
-
Needing things to feel “just right”
-
Avoidance of triggers that lead to anxiety
-
Seeking constant reassurance
If these symptoms sound familiar, you are in the right place!
How I Treat OCD
First, I will assess your symptoms and do a thorough intake to see what obsessions and compulsions you have. I then create an individualized treatment plan specifically for you to begin working on our goals together to manage your OCD. My primary methods include:
Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP Therapy)
ERP is the most common and most successful treatment approach for someone struggling with OCD. It helps you to face your fears, to control your level of anxiety, and to reduce your compulsions.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
CBT for OCD helps you identify and challenge obsessive thought patterns that reinforce compulsive behavior.
Acceptance Commitment Therapy
ACT for OCD helps you to accept some of your difficult thoughts.
